I’ve been living in this house for about a year and a half, ever since I moved back to Florida from Washington state. As anyone who decorates knows, you’re really never “finished,” but I’m proud of what I’ve done so far, and I’m excited to share it with you!

Living Room

When you first enter the house, you are immediately in the living room.

When I bought the house, it was painted cream with random blue accent walls. I painted this room, and most of the house, Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams, and it added a touch of depth to the walls. The most drastic change, though, is my front door. I love it so much! I saw that color in HGTV magazine one day and just knew that it would be perfect in my house. It is Rivulet by Sherwin Williams; I painted both sides of the door the same color.

My crazy plate wall and my slipcovered chairs are two of my favorite things in this room.

Plate Wall: I’ve collected these plates over time, mostly from TJ Maxx and Ross, although a few of them were gifts from Anthropologie (be still, my heart). I knew that I wanted to stick with mostly white with touches of black and aqua. I wanted them to be more of a texture than a definite presence.

Slipcovered Chairs: I ordered those chairs online. The description said black and white chenille, but the actual chairs were black and beige polyester. I hated the fabric immediately, but I still loved the shape of the chairs, so I covered them, and I now I think they’re perfect.

Dining Room

The living room leads straight into the kitchen and dining room.

I inherited the table from my parents, and the tabouret chairs came from Overstock. My dining room is pretty small, so I placed the table against the wall and put the fourth chair in my guest bedroom as a side chair.

I painted the pantry door the same Rivulet that is on my front door. When you’re in the dining room, you can see both doors at the same time.

Laundry Room

As you can kind of tell in the picture above, the laundry room is right off the dining room. It is my first time ever having a laundry room that isn’t a pass-through to another room, and I’m not going to lie: it’s pretty great.

I painted the walls Eider White from Sherwin Williams (one shade lighter than Repose Gray), and stenciled the circles with Rainwashed from Sherwin Williams and a $16 stencil from Hobby Lobby. The light fixture is a basket turned upside down with a light kit from Lowe’s and an Edison bulb. It was the first room I decorated when I moved in, and I still love love love it.

Kitchen

The kitchen was my most recent, and most expensive, project.

When I first bought the house, it had those fabulous cabinets and the stainless steel appliances, but that’s about all that is original.

The counters were dark brown laminate, there was a useless counter bar, and the pendant lights were these space-age fixtures that looked the they belonged in the Jetson’s house.

I removed the counters and replaced them with Glacier White Corian. While the counters were off, I cut down the counter bar and clad the wall in pine boards. I also replaced the lights with cage fixtures from Lowe’s and Edison bulbs, and put in a new white single-bowl sink and matte black faucet.

Here is a closer view of the kitchen backsplash. I originally bought white penny tile, but I couldn’t quite figure out how I wanted to install it, and where I wanted it to end, so I stenciled the walls with white paint and the same stencil that I used in the laundry room. I thought it was going to be a temporary fix, but I really love the way it looks, and it was free. I think I’m going to keep it.

The Bedrooms

This 1373 square foot house has four bedrooms. Yes, you read that right – four! I knew that I wanted a sewing room and a guest room, but it took me forever to figure out what to do with that fourth bedroom.

Master Bedroom

Someone used the word “cozy” to describe my bedroom the other day, and I think it’s the perfect word. There are a lot of layers without being too cluttered. I think the dark walls help with the cozy feeling, too. I painted this room Dorian Gray, the two shades darker than Repose Gray.

Sewing Room

Next to my bedroom is the smallest of the four bedrooms. I turned it in to my sewing room. The walls are Wallflower by, you guessed it: Sherwin Williams.

I love the pictures in the window over my table.  I bought those six pictures on Etsy from Heatherlee Chan. Her art is so beautiful, and the colors are perfect. Plus, some of her subjects have red hair, which I definitely appreciate.

I took the doors off the closet to give myself easier access. I inherited that little desk in there, and recently painted it Gleeful. It adds a fun pop of green to that room.

Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom and the fourth bedroom are on the opposite side of the house. These walls are Mindful Gray, one darker than Repose and one lighter than Dorian.  I made the quilt and pillows, and my mom made the curtains.

Bedroom Number Four

After using it for random storage for a year, I finally figured out what to do with the fourth bedroom: it’s a game room!

I had a television in my sewing room, but I never watched it in there, so I moved it into the game room.  I also brought my Wii and DVD player so I can exercise and play Wii games. (The walls are Buoyant Blue, in case you were wondering.)
